The Obstetrics and Neonatal Lab is a specialized educational environment aimed at enhancing skills related to maternal and child health during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. The laboratory focuses on teaching students the essential skills needed for caring for mothers and infants, preparing them to effectively apply these skills during practical training.
- Application of Natural Birth Skills: Training students to perform natural childbirth using a maternal and infant simulation manikin, helping them gain practical experience in this field.
- Handling Complicated Birth Cases: Teaching students how to identify and manage birth complications through simulation scenarios, enhancing their ability to make quick and effective decisions.
- Understanding Different Stages of Labor: Empowering students to recognize the various stages of the labor process, including preparation, contractions, and delivery, thus improving their competence in providing appropriate care at each stage.
- Postpartum Infant Healthcare: Equipping students with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide comprehensive healthcare to newborns, including health assessments, nutrition, and preventive care.
The laboratory targets third-year nursing students and bridge program students.
- Maternal Health Nursing and Care of the Newborn Practice (Course Code: 22070).
- This course aims to provide nursing students with fundamental concepts related to delivering comprehensive healthcare and nursing care to mothers during various stages of pregnancy: preconception, labor, and postpartum. It focuses on the role of nursing in caring for mothers and newborns. Students will be able to engage in the care of mothers and fetuses during the prenatal period and apply knowledge and skills related to the care and management of newborns.
- The practical course on Maternal and Neonatal Nursing consists of two sections: the first section is the Maternal Health Simulation Laboratory, where students practice various skills related to maternal and child health during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period within the university's laboratories. This laboratory emphasizes teaching essential skills for caring for mothers and children, preparing students to effectively apply these skills during their practical training. It also presents scenarios and videos of cases that students will discuss and analyze.
- The second part of the training takes place in hospitals, aiming to provide students with the foundational clinical training that enables them to deliver comprehensive healthcare and nursing care to mothers during the prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum periods. The emphasis is placed on the role of nursing in promoting health and preventing diseases during this clinical period.
- Maternal and Infant Simulation Manikin: This manikin is used to provide a hands-on educational experience that simulates various cases of pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care. It allows students to learn how to handle diverse medical situations related to maternal and child health.
- Tablet for Manikin Control: This device serves as a central control tool for the manikin, enabling students to monitor and adjust vital parameters and the manikin's responses during various childbirth and neonatal care scenarios.
- Vital Signs Display Screen: This screen is used to monitor and display the vital signs of both mother and infant, including blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen saturation. It also provides information on measuring uterine contractions during labor, allowing students to accurately track physiological changes.
Safety and preventive measures are enforced for students by adhering to safety protocols to minimize infections and prevent their transmission from student to student or from student to patient and vice versa.
