Fundamental of Nursing Lab

The Fundamental of Nursing Lab is a specialized educational environment aimed at training students in essential nursing skills based on scientific and methodological foundations, preparing them to effectively apply these skills in hospitals and healthcare centers. The lab focuses on developing competence and professionalism in nursing performance, while adhering to the highest standards of occupational safety and nursing ethics. It provides students with a hands-on experience that simulates real healthcare environments, including training in personal patient care, clinical assessment skills, medication management, and preventive practices.

The competencies and skills covered in the lab

Commitment to Occupational Safety and Infection Control: This includes wearing appropriate clothing, gloves, masks, and protective eyewear.
Mastery of All Nursing Procedures: Whether simple or complex.
Basic Nursing Skills: Including handwashing with soap and water or alcohol, making the patient’s bed, providing comprehensive patient care, and feeding the patient in various ways, including the insertion of a feeding tube.
Measuring Vital Signs: Such as temperature, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and heart rate, along with providing oxygen to the patient in different ways.
Insertion of Urinary Catheters: And administering medications via intravenous, intramuscular, or subcutaneous routes.
Wound Care: Including various types of dressings, care for diabetic feet, and treatment of nursing-related ulcers.
Documentation of All Nursing Procedures: To ensure the safety and quality of care.
Comprehensive and Accurate Handoff of Patient Status: To ensure continuity of care.

Fundamental of Nursing Practice 22095

This course aims to develop students' fundamental nursing skills through training in university labs, where they practice essential nursing skills in a simulated environment. The training focuses on preparing students to perform these skills efficiently and professionally when transitioning to hospitals and healthcare centers, with an emphasis on adhering to safety protocols and nursing ethics.

Major equipment and facilities in the lab

Realistic mannequins for teaching essential skills and internal and surgical nursing.
Safe, movable, and adjustable hospital beds.
Video and image projection equipment.
All necessary educational nursing supplies and equipment.
Realistic mannequins for teaching first aid.
Blood pressure monitors, oxygen saturation monitors, heart rate monitors, and blood glucose meters.

Occupational health and safety instructions of the lab

White lab coats.
Segregation of medical and sharp waste.
Infection control procedures, including appropriate clothing, gloves, masks, and protective eyewear.
Handwashing after patient contact or any nursing procedure.
Wearing gloves.
Proper body mechanics to avoid back and leg strain.
